In this unit, we will explain the meaning of “relativity“, one of the most important principles of Physics. We will focus our attention on the historical development of the concept, which appears closely related to the way nature works. Since Galileo’s time, relativity meant a new way of seeing the world, and it eventually broke the classical boundaries between force and velocity; two centuries later, Einstein, with his theory of special relativity, started an even deeper revolution: he changed the concepts of time and length. We will also describe some kinematic consequences of special relativity: many results are hard to accept, but are confirmed by reliable experimental evidence.
